Ways to HELP those in need from the LA Fires
Octavia's Bookshelf - an independent bookstore in Pasadena which is now gathering and distributing necessary resources for those who have lost so much in the wildfires.
Pasadena Job Center - A local Pasadena based organization connecting day laborers with employers and currently gathering donations and distributing resources locally.
Anti-Recidivism Coalition - a coalition working to end mass incarceration in California and currently raising funds to support the incarcerated fire crews working endlessly to put out the Los Angeles wildfires happening now. All funds go towards providing the firefighters with Immediate needs (‘thank you’ meals, food trucks, hygiene supplies including shower trucks, clothing and equipment for our crew members on the ground battling the Palisades and Eaton fires), Fire camp upgrades (new televisions, microwaves, gym equipment, sports equipment, and more), and Scholarship funds for individuals once they’re released (support for school supplies, housing, utilities, rent, as well as necessary equipment those entering professional firefighting careers).
Off-The-Grid Missions - The only Disaster Response organization dedicated to providing Deaf & Hard-of-hearing people with life-saving resources around the world. Currently, they are responding to the wildfires in CA to provide support to deaf & disabled evacuees.
Liyang Southern California - An advocacy network supporting human rights/environmental defenders in the struggle for land and self-determination in the Philippines. Currently Liyang Socal is providing Indigenous-led mutual aid efforts in Echo Park and beyond. They are gathering donations and distributing them to those in need.
Altadena Kindred - Is a collective making an effort to support the children affected by the 2025 Eaton fire. Collecting kids clothing, comfort and care organized by the Altadena community itself.
Ktown for All - An all-volunteer homeless outreach and advocacy organization in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Alongside their current work, they are also setting up local distribution centers and community support for Angelenos affected by the fires.
Masc Bloc LA - mutual aid project to distribute free masks in the so-called Los Angeles area. Currently Masc Bloc is helping to gather and distribute thousands of masks to folks in need of respiratory protection amidst the horrible air quality situation in LA due to the wildfires who may have not had access to masks otherwise.
This list was compiled by a long time community member and local resident of the LA area. Their family has been evacuated and is safe, yet so many people are in crisis and need! Thank you showing your kindness and concern by contributing to local organizations!

It’s been quite a week of big energy and emotions, in world changing events that can feel overwhelming. ETA Online gathered together for Community Qigong to attend to ourselves, reconnecting body, mind, and spirit. We're not solving the world's suffering and confusion in an hour, rather we are orienting, locating our center, and actively calibrating to it. Before we leap into actions, take a moment to gather, look in all directions to understand a larger context.
Feel all the feelings and circulate Qi, so that energy does not get stuck.
Keep surfing the big waves, we will be tumbled and shaped by them, and still find many ways to stand up.
Rest, have a good hearty meal, exercise, look up to the horizon.
Be with your people, those with whom you have a healthy, generative relationship so we can take turns in supporting each other in this moment. We have so much more life ahead.
Let's do some Qigong together by clicking on the image.

This is a message from good friends in Asheville, please read on:
We will not know the extent of devastation for a long time, and building back will take many years. Many lives have been lost, and countless livelihoods. Asheville and surrounding towns will never be the same, but there is a profound love of place here. Everyone I talk to is digging in and ready to assist for months and maybe years.
If you’re moved to donate, it will be deeply appreciated. The Red Cross and other large organizations have done wonderful things over the years, but it’s hard to tell how much of a donation actually gets to the people on the ground. Here are three local efforts that are boots on the ground and effective. I personally know some of the people involved:
Help for Barnardsville. https://shorturl.at/UVob1
This beautiful town is just a few minutes north of Asheville but not getting the same amount of attention. It is an area of farms, homesteads, schools, and working class people who commute to Asheville. They are absolutely devastated, many still cut off from the outside world. My friend up there tells me their roads are dirt tracks now, and trees block in almost every direction. They have set up this portal to aid their mutual efforts. This is a truly bottom up, local effort.
Beloved Asheville. https://belovedasheville.com
This is a very active non profit staffed by friends and neighbors. They’ve done all sorts of work over the years helping the city, but are in high gear with relief efforts. They are respected and trusted by Asheville. You can follow them on Instagram to see what they are going day to day.
MANNA Foodbank https://www.mannafoodbank.org
This is a non profit that works to end food insecurity. They, too, are staffed by friends and neighbors. They are actively setting up food distribution locations. Their own facility has taken flood damage, but they are forging ahead to get people fed.
There are so many ways to help, and many in need. Thank you for following your heart, and please forward this to anyone who would like to pitch in.
Yin Qi is abundant at this mid-point of the Autumn season. It is a time of appreciating the lengthening of the evenings highlighting the mysterious and reflective yin of the full moon. Being together at this time brings harmony and gratitude, as the interdependence of all life is revealed. Storing up for the winter is not just in material goods, it is also an opportunity to resolve internal and interpersonal strife by seeing how we truly rely and influence each other, even if we don't agree or like some individuals. Embodying this larger perspective reduces strife and cultivates peace based on the reality of interdependence, not idealism. At the very least, be polite and do not seek argument, be honest putting this into daily activity. Aggression brings severe long term ruptures. Conversely, neighborly, generous and friendly actions cultivate the village as a whole, including us, and supplies long term benefit throughout the cold months. Share food and drink, help each other out, show up for those in need, even in the most simplest ways. A smile, opening a door for an elder, slowing down enough to notice others and nature. All these actions are very much supported during this season, and turns over the soil for a good planting season in a few months. Enjoy the moon and all that autumn brings.
Thank you Sally, it's good to have a special time to remember these things!
